The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. (Matthew 28:5-6)
Thank you for your presence, leadership, and contributions to Easter at Reformation Lutheran Church! Our Holy Week and Easter celebrations were truly memorable and moving as we welcomed families, friends, and visitors to encounter the risen Christ with us through Word and sacrament.
I’m spending the week after Easter traveling. I will visit my sister in Des Moines, get back to the campus of Wartburg Seminary for a brief reunion and learning focused on stewardship, and on to Chicago for a board meeting with Lutheran Men in Mission.
It’s been a great spring in Las Vegas already! We welcomed our neighbors from the Beverly Green historic neighborhood to our parking lot for a community barbecue, where I was able to talk with children, local business owners, community leaders, city council candidates, and state assemblywoman Heidi Swank. Our worship in the park with Holy Spirit Lutheran and Lakes Lutheran church was a joyful gathering with over 200 people in attendance, and we raised nearly $500 to share between Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and Lutheran Disaster Response. We look forward to doing it again next year.
At our Easter Vigil Cameron Sanchez, son of Carrie and Aaron Sanchez and grandson of Jeri Brown was baptized. Easter Sunday we had over 140 people in attendance at worship! It was truly a blessed festival day! Next month, we’ll host Family Promise families May 5-12. May 5th is Undie Sunday – and we’ll focus on bringing socks and underwear for Martin’s Mart (Our friends at Caridad are restructuring and reforming into a public garden program downtown). May 8th is the wine tasting fundraiser for Lutheran Social Services of Nevada. May 12th is Mother’s Day!
Please keep in your prayers Dennis Geiter currently at Mountain View Hospital, Pete Geloff at Avenir Memory Care, and Simuel McGill at LifeCare Rehab.
We continue in this Easter session to worship and pray, to serve our neighbors, and to follow as we are led by the Word and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Sharing the heart of Christ in the heart of the city matters here. It matters that we gather here to worship, pray, and serve our neighbors. Thank you for showing up, and sharing your heart too. My family and I give thanks to God for you.
