When God Shows Up

The King had already chosen a side. The Baal prophets weren’t going to convert, but Elijah was counting on God to show up in the presence of the people – so they would know who was “indeed God.” They got a bull and they built an altar, and set everything up just right. The Baal prophets limped around – their walk was unsteady. They called on the name of their god – and…nothing. No thunder, no lightning.
Bring Us Together

Churches in our time have caused others to suffer abuse, to turn to idols of power and prosperity, and terrorized consciences of those who are judged unworthy of God’s grace. There are deep divisions among denominations, not to mention divisions in American culture based on religion, political affiliation, race, gender, status, class, age, and ability. What can bring us together? or “Why the church great ’til they gotta be great?”
