For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans 8:18
We know times are tough. So many around us are struggling to find work, pay rent, find food, and support their families, not to mention push through the fear and anxiety around us and in us. I am continually thinking and praying about how we hold each other together as the church. What else can we do but pray, read scripture, check in on each other, give of our time and support this ministry that serves countless neighbors that surround us? You’re doing it. Thank you.
I have to thank you, because I can’t do it alone. You show up for online worship, you give your financial gifts, you arrange flowers, baby layettes, donate food for the food pantry, care for our young people, and serve those closest to you, all while working, going about your personal errands, and caring for your families. This is what it means to be the church. We do not operate out of fear of what tomorrow may bring, we show up and stay focused on faith. We do not condemn others, but advocate on behalf of those in need of our help. We do not trust in our selves, our wallets, or anything else, but pray to God who knows what we need at all times, and look to the day when we can gather again for worship and praise. Thank you for your patience, your prayers, your offerings, and your ministry in this difficult time.
We have a lot to look forward to! After passing our strategic plan, we are moving with intentionality. Last week we received notice of our acceptance as a Reconciling in Christ congregation – only the second in Las Vegas! We have new materials to review and will soon schedule some Bible studies to delve into how we practice this welcome as a community of faith. We have a new banner to hang on our building, are working on digital signage, and sanctuary seating options. We’ll soon begin some planning for God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday (digitally?) and sending postcards to neighbors inviting them to worship online. We’ve also been thinking of some safe fellowship and fundraising ideas, so look for more on that later!
Confirmation is scheduled for August 9, 2020. We are working on how to bring our families together with the congregation for affirmation of baptism and a recognition of this special milestone. We will have the baptism of JP Metevelis on August 30th. Some of your kids will participate in VBS Online with Christ the Servant beginning July 20th, and Super Cyber Wednesday is July 22nd. Leadership Lab begins July 27th!
Thanks to our dedicated staff: Pastor Matt, Marissa, Danny, and Mary, who is back in the office Mon. – Thurs. in the mornings! We are blessed by your presence and gifted by your work! God is so good, and there are good things to come. Stay safe, church!
In Christ,
Pastor Jason
